St. Mark’s was established with a mission for Outreach. From our early beginnings a tithe (10%) of the income given to the church was set aside for ministries that reach out to our brothers and sisters in need in our community.
Under the guidance of Ed Parker, our former Outreach Chairman, a mission statement for Outreach was established. In part it reads: Therefore, St. Mark’s provides food for the hungry, shelter where possible for the homeless, and responds to other emerging human needs. We are committed to doing this, wherever possible, through hands-on kinds of programs that involve members, believing that such efforts are a witness to the Gospel and a means of grace to us. More than simply meeting human needs, we seek to glorify God by honoring and respecting all people, especially those most impoverished, oppressed and despised. It is in giving justice to the oppressed, hospitality to the homeless, and assistance to the needy that all of us are enriched and our entire community is blessed.
St. Mark's financially supports Corpus Christi Metro Ministries, Women's Shelter of South Texas, Timon's Ministries, the Food Bank, and Kairos Ministries as part of our tithe. In addition we have two ministries that are unique to our parish --Access Plus Ramp Builds and our Vision Ministry.
